Syphilis is a metaphor for the pain of war. Even if you can't see it or touch it, it is still with you, torturing people's souls.

20171218le. Akira Kurosawa, the main theme after the war, a good doctor for everyone, would be even more mediocre if it weren't for the monologue at the end. What is remarkable is that Kurosawa tries to make everyone three-dimensional. The story doesn't go in the direction you expect. The title refers to the duel between human nature and desire. Compared to other works, this one is too forbidding and depressing.
