Michael, a 24-year-old young man who suffered from cerebral palsy since childhood and was paralyzed, has long lived in the Carrigmore Rehabilitation Center, which specializes in accommodating people with disabilities. This institution is run by the powerful Eileen. Since the distinctive Rory O'Shea moved into the Carrigmore Center, Michael's life has changed. What surprised Michael the most was that although Rory's whole body was paralyzed except for the ability to move his right hand, he was quick in his thinking and was able to understand Michael's words like a book.
At the same time, Rory's energetic and rebellious character ignited a flame deep in Michael's heart, allowing him to enter the wonderful world outside the Carrigmore Center.

Rory O'Shea Was Here quotes

  • [after Siobhan has handed in her notice as their carer]

Rory: Take a letter, Michael. To Dublin City Council. "Dear Sir or Madam. As wheelchair users with suicidal intentions, I must protest at a lack of facilities. None of the bridges are equipped with easy parapet access, thus curtailing the rights of the disabled to throw themselves in. Yours in *disgust*, Rory Gerard O'Shea and Michael Connolly."

  • Interview Panelist: What was your purpose in coming here today?

Michael Connolly: A right must exist independently of its exercise.
