On the film's official synopsis, it is written that "all the characters in the film are real". These truths originate from director Roselyn Burch's extensive collection and arrangement of historical materials. The process of collecting information took the director three years, and she worked seven to nine hours a day, five days a week.
The biggest difficulty was finding the interviewee. Survivors of that event are hard to find today. Most of the adults were gone by then, and only the children remained.
