In 1999, "My Neighbors the Yamadas (ホーホケキョとなりの山田くん)", which was highly praised and unpopular, returned with a feather, and director Takahata Isao began a 14-year silence. Until the winter of 2013, Hiroshi Takada, who was 78 years old, returned to the theater with the eight-year-old production of "The Story of かぐや姫の物語".
The concept of the film can be traced back to the Toei Animation era. The director Uchida Tome once adapted "たけとりものがたり" into an animated film to solicit proposals from the members. At that time, Takahata Isao was committed to exploring the "crime and punishment" behind the Moon Princess. The proposal was not accepted, and eventually the plan disappeared. Takahata Isao has always been eager to animate the story of "たけとりものがたり" on the screen. His proposal finally received a response from すずきとしお, and the shooting plan of "かぐや姫の物语" was officially launched in 2005.
