"Uncle Frank" is a well-crafted social drama with solid performances from the cast, with enough witty comedy to make the audience smile, while at the same time expressing themes of tolerance and understanding . Director Alan Ball turned this slightly autobiographical tale into one that empathizes with the audience, showing the usual confusion of family boundaries. The story itself has no particularly novel content. Marriage, coming out of the closet, and growing up are all common plots, and some are solemn and witty elements that audiences think so-called "road movies" should have. But it all came together into a brilliant piece that was off-the-beaten-path and achieved a retro feel on a budget, and photographer Khalid Mohtaseb captured the imagery attractively.
The performance is actually the biggest selling point of the film. Sophia Lillis has a natural sun-friendly feel, and in a film like this, she's very appealing to audiences. Paul Bettany's performance is very good. He gave Frank, a high-IQ character, an ego and rationality, covering up the churning of his inner world, and his inner world was revealed in a tragedy. Peter Markdis' performance is very eye-catching, which makes the role of Wally lively and three-dimensional. Behind his relaxed and lively appearance and love of teaching nature is his earnest expectation that Frank can truly be himself   .

Ten stars. He is a highly respected college professor from the upper classes in New York, and a gay son who is despised and despised by his father. He is an uncle who encourages his niece to be brave despite the pressure of his peers in the small town. He is also an ordinary person who dares not face his sexuality and tries to escape after being released from the closet society. He is a good companion who is knowledgeable and humorous, and a coward who kills his first love with vicious words. At the age of 46, at his father's funeral, Frank finally opened his heart and reconciled with himself, who had troubled him for half his life. On this day, tears are pain, guilt and bitterness, but also relief, calm and joy. Everything, just like the afternoon courtyard covered with bright sunshine, everyone has found their appropriate position, and they are chatting and laughing lightly. how wonderful.

Uncle Frank quotes

    [Frank]

Beth: was the only adult I knew who looked me in the eye; who was curious about what I had to say; and who liked to make me laugh. And in summer of 1969, when I was 14, that was exhilarating.

  • Bruce: I've decided I'm gonna be who I want to be instead of letting other people dictate who I am.

Beth: Other people or facts, apparently.
