I thought it was this year's green paper, but I didn't expect the dull

I almost cried for the next half hour. There are many Uncle Franks in this world, and many more such families, but it never ends like this. Instead of letting Frank end up drowning in a lake, Alan Ball gave him a relatively gentle ending (even with prejudice and compromise), I think because he didn't want to be too cruel, but the world itself is so cruel. Oh father, patriarchy, can we go and hate our father, figure out how to kill him countless times in our minds, take the flowers from his cemetery, and put them next to the ones we love. Can we not choose to forgive and leave our hometown forever? That last line, Mothers know, brought tears to my eyes. That's the difference between a mother and a father. It's not about how to love, it's about whether there is love.

Uncle Frank quotes

  • Beth: [narrating] He

    [Frank]

Beth: was the only adult I knew who looked me in the eye; who was curious about what I had to say; and who liked to make me laugh. And in summer of 1969, when I was 14, that was exhilarating.
