"Waltz With Bashir" comes from the director's personal experience of the Sabra Shatila massacre. He revealed the hidden pain of history from a personal perspective by interviewing the comrades of the parties. The title of the film is not directly related to the director himself, but comes from one of his interviewees, the commander of his infantry regiment during the Lebanon War. After the commander was surrounded, he picked up a heavy machine gun and was elected president of Lebanon. Bashr Gemayar’s huge poster "jumped up a crazy waltz" and desperately killed people
.
The film is based on interviews with Foreman's friends and soldiers who participated in the war in the past. All interviews are included and used as the narration for this cartoon. Some of these cases were repeated by Harman himself because Harman’s friends wanted to keep their privacy
