In May 2001, Garner and Wilkes, who were recruiting staff, saw a rough cut version of "Fast and Furious" brought by producer Neil H. Moretz. After Moretz successfully signed the contract, the producer Fang decided to continue to use the golden pair of Rob Cohen and Van Diesel. Director Cohen expressed his honor to work with Neal. In the eyes of Cohen, only Van Diesel can interpret the protagonist Sand Cage vividly. Director Cohen thinks Sand Cage is an anti-hero character, and only Van Diesel has this characteristic.
From the very beginning, Cohen wanted Samuel Jackson to play the role of Augusta Stuart. Jackson has always been dubbed "King of Cool" and "Mr Cool". His otherworldly charm deeply attracted Cohen.
