political life

Tired, more tired than Edward Wilson. I really shouldn't be watching this movie that gives me more headaches when I have a headache. Can't say it's good or bad because I don't understand it at all. My historical distaste for politics makes me scratch my head whenever I see a movie on this subject.
Whether Edward's life is a success or a failure, maybe he is a success for the entire United States, but for his family. The wedding received a dispatch order, and it has been six years since we met again. The wife proposed to sleep in separate rooms, and then calmly said that she had been with other men. Maybe family and career really can only choose one of the two, but is this choice great?
Married because of his son, but killed his own grandson. When work is completely mixed with family, a sad life is born.

No more weeping, mourning shepherds, no more weeping Lycidas you mourning did not die though he sank under the water...

A historical drama like this has a complex background, a large time span, and many characters, which makes it seem a bit tiring. However, the film is still a good film, and it strives for excellence in all aspects, and the cast is also very strong.

The Good Shepherd quotes

  • [first lines, which are repeated with repeated playings of the surveillance video to Edward Jr]

Miriam: You are safe here with me.

  • [last lines]

Edward Wilson: [reading] They are right what they say about me. I was weak. A coward. I compromised myself. My honor. My family. My country. I am ashamed of myself. To my wife, I am sorry I've done this to you. To my son, I hope you will grow to be a courageous man. A good husband. A good father. I hope whatever you decide to do, you lead a good, full life. I hope whatever your dreams may be come true. Your loving husband and father.
