When the Postman Met Poetry

Poems don't belong to those who write them, but to those who need them--Mario Island young Mario, like an unwritten blank notebook, is full of curiosity about love and the world outside the island, full of infinite possibilities . The yearning for love gave him the urge to become a poet. With the inspiration and help of the great poet Neruda, he started his beautiful love and poetic life.

Neruda's departure seemed to Mario to take away all that was beautiful. But what he didn't know was that Neruda had sown poetic seeds in his heart, allowing him to collect the wonderful flow of things around him. As Neruda said: "The best way to understand poetry is to feel it through emotional experience."

While sorting through the old stuff to send to Neruda, Mario turned on the tape recorder that Neruda had used, and time slipped back to the moment Neruda asked him what he thought was the best thing about the island.

At that moment, his answer was love;

At this moment, his answer is the waves, the wind, the sad fishing nets of his father, the sad bells of the church, the starry sky and the heartbeat of new life.

At that moment, he thought that Neruda took away all the good things;

At this moment, he realized that Neruda actually left him a lot.

The giant wheel of history has run over, and it seems that everything is gone with the wind and becomes irrelevant. How small people are, like a page of inconspicuous poems, floating up and down in the flow of people fleeing in a panic, and buried in the soil of history. But man is so shining, like the stars in the night sky, shining in the memory of those who are related to him. Just like Mario is to Neruda, and Neruda is to Mario, they influence each other and live in each other's hearts.

    7.8/10 The Italian island, the rough sea and the rough beauty, the friendship between the postman and the poet, are all beautiful and moving.

    Excellent soundtrack. Simple character. Combined with "The Bicycle Thief", "The Great Road" and "Night of Cabiria", Italy in that era was like China in the 1980s. Profitable merchants had already begun to dominate, and honest people were taking their own losses.

The Postman quotes

  • Pablo Neruda: We poets are all fat.

  • Pablo Neruda: Even the most sublime ideas sound ridiculous if heard too often.
