some humble opinion

The whole film of "Happy Lazaro" is full of religious metaphors, and the realism alludes to what this society should be like. The foolish people are foolish people after all. In the first half, the entire village was exploited and controlled by the capitalists and willingly became slaves. In the second half, the villagers entered the modern society, but they became slaves of capital, and their life was even more difficult. The pure and honest Lazaro is like a mirror, reflecting the good and evil of people. He was like a fringe in the village, a slave of slaves. However, he was always holy and beautiful, retaining his purity and kindness towards the world. Lazaro's actors are very well chosen, with clean and clear eyes and the whole person exuding the brilliance of Christ. He used a kind of ignorant and fearless power to infect this smoky world, making everyone seem to be in the church, accepting the baptism of hymns. The name of the movie translates to Happy Lazaro, is Lazaro happy? Perhaps from the first point of view, he was unfortunate to see that he was suppressed by all kinds of things and lived in a downfall. But then I think about it, maybe he is happy, he has no desires, everything he does is for others, others are happy, and he is the same. At the same time, in this extremely ugly world, a kind and pure person like him is still needed to maintain the order and balance of the society, but this kindness will be excluded and destroyed in this secular world. In the final scene of the film, Lazaro turns into a wolf, trying to escape the hustle and bustle of this world, to the world he believes in. When I saw the movie poster, I remembered that it has the same purpose as Watteau's "Joker Jill". It is estimated that it was designed according to the concept of this painting, and both characters are tragic. Jill the Clown reluctantly accepts people's attention, but from his sad eyes, we can see his endless grievances and sufferings. My favorite scene in the movie is before turning on the light bulb, the villagers in the house seem to have gone back to the past, and everyone has changed back to the way they were before; when the light bulb is turned on again, everyone has returned to their real appearance. The warm tones of village life in the first half of the film and the cool tones of the second half form a stark contrast between how Lazaro sees and feels the world. And then the film film really poked my heart! ! The retro graininess is very flavorful! !

【EU Film Exhibition】The Modern Encounter of Christ & The Rotation of Ordinary People's Inferiority. The simple image texture is in sharp contrast with the rich metaphorical imagery. The end - the wolf is constantly running towards the camera on the road, which is moving. The whole film is like a spiritual baptism, just like the fast-moving aerial shots that have been inserted many times, overlooking the world. The film combines neo-realistic rural depiction with image quality, surreal and smart brushstrokes and rewriting of religious mythology. It also inherits the glory of Italian films by Rossellini, Fellini, Pasolini and others. Tradition. (9.0/10)

Understated magical realism, the clarity and purity of the 16mm film in the picture really complements the protagonist's face and attitude

Happy as Lazzaro quotes

  • Marchesa Alfonsina De Luna: Human beings are like animals. Set them free and they realize they are slaves locked in their own misery. Right now, they suffer, but they don't know. I exploit them, they exploit that poor man. It's a chain reaction that can't be stopped.

  • Marchesa Alfonsina De Luna: He who knows himself well is humbled in his own presence. And the praise of other men provokes no pleasure. If I were to know everything in the universe and scorned the charity who would bring me the grace of God? Who would judge my actions? One should go beyond the thirst for knowledge that is the root of distraction and disappointment.
