The whole movie is clearly a sad story. A group of peasants who have been deceived and exploited in the deep mountains, after being rescued to the city, still live at the bottom of the society, robbing, cheating, and picking up garbage. Lazaro is a sluggish man, seemingly ignorant of all the pain, the happiness. In the deep mountains, everyone calls him all the time, and when he is sick, he is despised by everyone. In the city, he has an extra "mouth" and can't work, and is still despised by people. In the end, Lazaro wanted to return the confiscated property to the bank for his "brother", but was beaten to death by everyone.
