The death of an outsider

The tenant Trelkovsky is an outsider, thin, polite, and non-aggressive. The big surround shot in the opening clearly explained the environment of the whole story. This is a closed society, and the most important thing for an outsider is to adapt to everything here. Almost the first half of the space is devoted to various events to describe the conflict between Trelkovsky and the external society: the
concierge and her dog
landlord and his housekeeper (bargaining over the rent)
and the nurse in the hospital (Trelkovsky is also an intruder) Identity)
Coffee shop (the boss recommended Chocolate and Marlboro and he drank coffee and smoked Gauloise Blue)
Simone’s funeral in the church (the priest and the statue of Jesus made him breathless)
The party awakened the neighbors
... The

so-called quantitative change resulted in a qualitative change, precisely because This series of detailed conflicts finally caused the split of Mr. T's personality and the final suicide. The so-called murderer in T's eyes was the group of neighbors around him, but in fact, the concierge and the landlord showed sympathy after he fell for the first time and called an ambulance as soon as possible. The last straw that broke T's psychological defense line was that he himself mistaken an old man knocking on the door for the landlord.

Therefore, the world around him cannot be the only reason for Mr. T's death. Polanski does not have a right to judge who is wrong here. This is an advantage and a disadvantage. Compared with "Rosemary's Baby", the two films both involve the same stage. The protagonist suspects that he is being persecuted around him. The difference is that Rosemary did meet the devils believer, and T is a conjecture, so from "Strange Tenants" It can be used to explain and discuss the elements of society, politics and even national history, but Rosemar's Baby lacks some possibilities. However, the film lacks a strong transition to explain why Mr. T turned himself into a simone. The plot conflicts mentioned above can be used as some foreshadowing, but they cannot be an absolutely reasonable source of explanation, far inferior to Rosemary's experience. The devil believers who have arrived are convincing. A similar example is "The Shining", because as a viewer, it is impossible to get an absolute "empathy" experience, so that T or Jack in the Shining is completely projected on him.

Returning to the question of Mr. T’s identity conflict, there are several questions about his identity in the film,
"Are you French?"
Mr. T’s answer is very interesting. I am Polish, but I am also a French citizen.
This answer is very realistic, because Polanski himself is of Polish descent who was born in France. It is easy to imagine the difficulties encountered as a minority when entering a new society, food, clothing, housing and transportation, everything is not going well, just like Mr. T and Polanski himself experienced.

If you have a strong heart, you can completely retain your identity. Whether it is a Polish or a Parisian, a completely inferior person may unreservedly change himself and become an authentic tenant. But Mr. T was caught in the middle.

He was timid by nature and tried to integrate into this closed society, but gave up halfway, and instead wanted to fight for everything that exists. For example, when crossing a busy street, the most dangerous behavior is not to run over quickly and unscrupulously, but to run halfway and suddenly hesitate.

The greedy tenants are certainly not likable, but they definitely say they are not murderers; Mr. T, who was polite and polite, lost his life without fault, but it also made people feel uncomfortable. There are only the dead, no murderers.

In Polanski's one-man show, Ajani became a dispensable vase. The technique is calm and sophisticated, but the plot is not enough to catch people, and the cause of the protagonist's tendency to collapse is not fully demonstrated.

Polanski's indictment of society goes hand in hand with a fascination with self-destruction. The narrow interior space is completely twisted with skilled camera position scheduling to form a sense of depth that has been repeatedly extended and compressed. When you enter the room, you fall into a coma. When you walk out of the building, you are exiled. The moment you look out the window is the moment you truly wake up, so you can only be freed by jumping down.
