At the beginning of the film, I was surprised to find that the little white boat with blue and red stripes used by my father for fishing can still be seen on the island, although it has been abandoned in the backyard. Follow the film to recite the passionate Italian, recalling the sound of the sea taking pictures of the reef and the eternal sunshine. Fortunately, Neruda allowed the island’s beauty described by the postman Mario to be on the scene instead of being heard on the tape. When you have seen it with your own eyes, you can believe that there is a place like this that you will not forget and that you will want to go back in a few years.
However, outside of the beautiful scenery, the postman Mario is even more brilliant. He is more than just an islander who is simple and shy, clumsy on the surface and fiery inside. He was serious when he said to Neruda that "poetry should be used by those in need", his drunkenness when he stared at his lover, his shyness when he uttered a metaphor for the first time, he was dissatisfied with the anger of the poet's signature, and Or his pride when he got the friendship of the poet, all these feelings are undisguised in front of us, just like Neruda's congratulations at his wedding, you are simple and beautiful.
The people's feelings are simple, so simple that as long as you believe in a person, you can believe in everything about him. The people's heart is kind, even if the poet has not fulfilled his promise to communicate with him and disappointed him, he is still willing to use the poet's works to name his children. The people's posture is humble, so humble that he never thinks he has ever given poets anything, let alone what a kind of precious investment to believe.
When the tragedy happened several years later, the people’s poet returned to the island, but he could only hear Mario’s praise for the island and the last enthusiasm of the people before he disappeared. The old tears did not know that it was because of him. The postman regretted his enlightenment, but still apologized for not keeping his promise. I believe that the screenwriter’s choice of Neruda as a clue to this simple story has ulterior motives, and as a people living in a country with the same faith, it is even more afflicted.
Fortunately, this is not a purely compassionate story. The dialogue is cute and humorous, the characters are rich and lively, the plot is concise and in place, and the soundtrack is romantic and elegant. All of these cannot be summarized. As the poet said, the beauty of poetry is that it cannot be explained. I have seen it, heard it, and laughed before I can understand it. This is a touching story, because it is rare anymore, so it is precious.
