The world is always full of undecidable things. Is this God testing the only intelligence we humans have? Or is it God's deliberate trick? I'd rather believe the latter, because often we can't ignore someone who really wants to be nice to us, but we can ignore a boring person who's doing evil.
In fact, there is no real problem between them to solve, because everything is just a matter of the past. The saddest part should be the one in their hearts. I can't help but think of "Pretty Woman". A tragedy, a comedy, the difference is that one succumbs to fate, and the other lets himself dominate his fate.
Treat God as a fool, and what should he do?
