⭐As one of the three gangster movies with the same reputation as "The Godfather" and "Once Upon a Time in America", the film is a highlight in terms of lens presentation. When shooting a scene where a gang leader enters a nightclub, the character enters through the back door and talks with many people on the way. The behavior is very good, and the power and charm of a gangster can't help but be revealed. The picture is beautiful when unfolding this plot, which has become one of the classic long shots.

Henry Hill was not educated and skillless since he was a child. He followed the boss, Pauli, by collecting protection fees, smuggling, and robbery. He married his beautiful wife Karen, has a lovely daughter, a charming mistress, a luxury car and a luxury mansion. Jimmy Conway and Tommy are good friends of Henry. The three experienced and many things together: killing the Italian mafia leader Billy Betz who humiliated Tommy; planning the German Airlines robbery, killing his accomplices, embezzling the money; even Carrying the boss, Pauli, is a drug dealer.

Of course, in addition to enjoying the power brought by money, their lives are more precarious: Tommy was shot and killed for the death of Billy Baez; Henry himself was arrested by the police for drug trafficking, others Also implicated.

Karen tried his best to release Henry on bail. At this time, they had nothing, isolated and perilous. They must try their best to survive, no matter what way they pay.

The film included Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pessi and the three powerful movie stars to work together, and the acting skills are naturally beyond doubt. Joe Pesci also won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and director Martin Scorsese won the Best Director at the 47th Venice International Film Festival.

Lao Ma opened a brand-new street gang movie mode. The first half fully mobilizes and satisfies people’s fantasies about gangsters. The characters are promoted and made fortune all the way. They speak loyalty, respect, change women, and do whatever they want regardless of the consequences; the second half is Suddenly, violence, drugs, marital affairs, assassinations, and betrayal are trapped in a quagmire. Brotherhood and organizational desires collapsed, forced to return to reality and suffer karma. The plot uses a murder as a turning point. The cruel killing is brought to the beginning, and the cause and effect will be revealed later. It is just an ordinary quarrel made by more than one bullying, but the fate of the main character has changed as a result, and Joe Pessi has nothing to do. The warning's sudden death shattered people's romantic fantasy of the Mafia, and replaced it with the helplessness and fear of being imprisoned. Several classic scenes worthy of recollection, impromptu performances on Joe Pessi's table, long shots of Leliotta going to high-end restaurants, and gorgeous scheduling of cooking and cutting vegetables in prison. Lao Ma presents the extreme level of his peak period, fast editing, fixing frames, narration, inserting long shots, super high narrative efficiency, perfect scene scheduling, everything is impossible to find

The calm and long lens is really awesome, I think it should be adapted later and sold to in plain sight.

Goodfellas quotes

  • Paul Cicero: I don't want any more of that shit.

Henry Hill: What shit? What are you talking about?

Paul Cicero: Just stay away from the garbage, you know what I mean.

    Henry Hill: Look, Paulie...

Paul Cicero: I'm not talking about what you did inside, you did what you had to do, I'm talking about now, from now, here and now.

Henry Hill: Paulie, why would I want to get into that...

Paul Cicero: Don't make a jerk out of me, just don't do it... just don't do it. Now I want to talk to you about Jimmy, you have to watch out for him. He's a good earner but he's wild, takes too many chances.

Henry Hill: Yeah, I know that, I know Jimmy, you think I would take chances like Jimmy?

Paul Cicero: And Tommy, he's a good kid too. But he's crazy, he's a cowboy, he's got too much to prove. You gotta watch out for kids like this.

Henry Hill: Yeah, I know what they are, I only use them for certain things, believe me, you don't have to worry.

Paul Cicero: Listen, I ain't gonna get fucked like Gribbs, understand? Gribbs is 70 years old, and the fuckin' guy's gonna die in prison. I don't need that. So I'm warning everybody, EVERYBODY. It could be my son, it could be anybody. Gribbs got 20 years just for saying "hello" to some fuck who was sneaking behind his back selling junk. I don't need that. Ain't gonna happen to me, you understand?

    Henry Hill: Uh huh.

Paul Cicero: You know that you're only out early because I got you a job. I don't need this heat, understand that.

    Henry Hill: Uh huh.

Paul Cicero: And you see anybody fucking around with this shit, you're going to tell me, right?

    Henry Hill: Yeah.

Paul Cicero: [slaps him] That means anybody!

    Henry Hill: All right.

    Paul Cicero: Yeah?

    Henry Hill: Yeah, of course.

  • Jimmy Conway: I'm not mad, I'm proud of you. You took your first pinch like a man and you learn two great things in your life. Look at me, never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.
