Leviathan outside the cage

After reading "Enemy of the State", three words came to mind - Leviathan.

According to the Hebrews, this great demon was once Jehovah's greatest enemy. But I think the "Bible" also has the law of the protagonist. When Jesus made a move, Satan didn't dare to look at it - just like this, the poor Leviathan became the holy "food" for the saints of Jehovah.

In the 17th century, in Hobbes's writings, this big monster transformed into an indispensable existence of a modern state - the government. The people hand over part of their power and delegate it to some people, in order to protect everyone's innate right to equality and freedom.

But problems followed. The government is composed of people, no matter how perfect its operating mechanism is, it is difficult to escape from the inherent flaws and weaknesses of people. Thus, the government has a complex duality - on the one hand, he represents freedom, equality, and appears as a maintainer of order; on the other, he is cunning, evil, cruel, and treats his so-called "enemies" with violence and terror. Therefore, people have a saying, "The highest ideal of human society is to put Leviathan in a cage."

A person's strength, wanting to fight against a country, is quite a bit like shaking a tree. Therefore, in the film, it is not difficult to see that Will Smith is running around like a mouse, while the people of the National Security Agency are sitting in the surveillance car playing a game of cat and mouse - spy satellites, surveillance radars, helicopters, Electronic interference can do anything. So the former Vietnam War veteran said to Will: "I will be surprised if you survive one more day." This former NSA veteran knows what kind of power a country has, so he Patted Will, "It's none of my business."

If one fights Leviathan, the result speaks for itself. But Hollywood's protagonist halo is definitely not worse than the Bible. The scrambled Will finally pulled the old man into the water with his magical personal charm, and the two teamed up to fight the US national security system. In the end, the directors proved once again that the protagonist's invincibility, Leviathan, was just a bug in the camera.

But what about outside the studio?

"The more you use it, the more traces you leave behind." By Mr.'s words, we saw the tip of the iceberg of the national security department. "Everything about you is not a secret in modern times. You don't have any privacy for the government."

Hobbes probably couldn't imagine that Leviathan has developed into a Transformer more than 300 years later. On the one hand, he can act as an umbrella for the people and use state power to protect the interests of the people; but on the other hand, he does not trust the people he protects, and in order to maintain its own operating mechanism, he must intervene in the interests of the people. But then the question arises: Who delegated this power of government?

Let's go back and look at the original origin of the government: based on the belief that everyone is equal, rights were equal in the original society; in order to protect everyone's rights, everyone gave up part of the power to delegate some people to form a government; the government Then use these powers to maintain its operation under the guarantee that all people are born equal. However, hundreds of years later, the balance has quietly tilted. The power of the government is getting bigger and bigger, and the people have given up more and more rights, so that in modern times, the rights owned by the people must be fully guaranteed by the law. We are not without sadness to see that the big cake of interest has "Leviathan" clearly written in the center, while the people are huddled in a corner, competing for the food that was originally dismissed.

It is difficult to say whether the existence of the government is a kind of progress or regression. From the perspective of development, the government has indeed promoted the development of society in the past few hundred years, and has concentrated the strength of citizens. It is true that governments can cooperate to promote the progress of human society; but only from the perspective of people's own rights, we are And it will also lose more power to maintain increasingly large and cumbersome government institutions. The reason is simple: no one monitors the government. Even if there is, it is not difficult to see that it is part of the government after all. The game of being both an athlete and a referee, the result is very cup. So Mrs. Smith said one last sentence: "Who will oversee the Overseer?" Will smiled. We don't have to dwell too much on the plot of the movie, but when we see Leviathan showing his terrifying fangs, we may really appreciate that this is indeed a noble demon.

We don't want to see human society regress to the feudal era, and we don't want to see the power we ceded become a protective umbrella for some government officials to do whatever they want. But the truth is that our territory is shrinking, and we have degenerated from a master who can rule the world to a slave who can only submit to the changes of the world. The last thing we want to see is that, at that moment, the Leviathan drives the people forward with a fang-whip, driving humanity to another abyss.
