Critics say the film has an implicit left-wing communist leaning, and if so, it's the earliest proto-communism. Even so, the label feels nondescript. At its heart, Pasolini is just very simple, trying his best to restore a true portrait of Jesus that he thinks is the most faithful. He didn't want a script, he shot page by page according to the Gospels. The pictures were black and white, documentary-style, but poetic, powerful, and poetic and powerful. Undoubtedly this is one of the weighty contributions to the history of Jesus' interpretation. In some grotesque places, more shots bring moving. I haven't read Matthew's Gospel in its entirety. This movie is the best chance to know it. It is faithful to the original text, holy, solemn, and pure (God, all the Medea and Salo I have seen before are so perverted. ...), conveying the most fundamental power of religion. But Jesus even looks so perfect, isn't it too distorted, er, there seems to be something wrong with this statement.
