To survive, you need these: music, poetry, talent, and waterfalls

The 1965 film had not yet used the technology of live radio, which formed a certain sense of isolation for me, who was used to live radio for a long time. In addition, although the story is set in the Soviet Union, the actors all speak English, which also makes people a little playful - but after the movie, I still have red eyes.

A 200-minute movie, there is too much to say, this is a movie that is destined to be turned out and re-watched constantly. Watching the movie for the first time today, I wrote a few notes to keep it handy for future review and comparison.

1. Doctor Zhivago had two women in his life, Tonya and Lara, who both told the doctor that the other was a good person. Both gave birth to the doctor's daughter, and the doctor did not see them born or died: Tonya named her daughter Lara, and Lara named her daughter Tonya.

2. To say that the doctor's true love is his lover, Lara, is unfair to his wife, Tonya. When Tonya got pregnant, the doctor rushed to town and told Lara I was never coming back. When the doctor escaped from the Red Army guerrillas, the first thing he looked for was Tonya and his family, and he went to Lara's house after learning that they had all left. Although the doctor whose heart was thin as a piece of paper ran into Lara in Moscow, she couldn't cry out and died of angina, but she couldn't explain anything, because at that time Tonya was far away and couldn't appear in Moscow.

3. Poetry represents love. The doctor (who is also a poet) writes for the first time in the film when he writes a poem called Lara and sends it to Lara. And what Tonya is most excited about and admires the most is the doctor's poetry. As soon as he gets off the train, he enthusiastically discusses the poems praised by the doctor in the newspapers. I guess the movie doesn't explain it, but the doctor should have written poems for Tonya too. But these poems made him troublesome under the dictatorship of the proletariat. They were too personal and petty, and there could be no one in that era. But at the doctor's funeral, many readers of his poetry collection came to offer their condolences.

4. The socialite who cheated on Lara emotionally and physically (Lara's mother is also his mistress), was treated by a doctor after being shot by Lara. At the moment, the doctor asks what to do with the girls you have played with in the future, the celebrities answer, if they are interested in her, I will give her as a wedding gift. Years later, celebrities broke into the lives of doctors and Lara again. That night, Lara said behind the doctor's back that she was very disgusted to have met celebrities. The doctor replied, I don't mind. Then the two embraced.

5. Lara's then boyfriend later became the commander-in-chief of the revolutionary team (Red Army). Is his hatred and cruelty towards the old system and the old ruling class mixed with anger towards celebrities?

6. The doctor took Tonya and his son on the train to leave Moscow to take refuge in the countryside. The son asked what the sound was, and the doctor said it was the sound of a waterfall. At the end of the whole film, the doctor's daughter (and Lara's) and her boyfriend are walking on the artificial dam, and the camera zooms back and forth over the artificial waterfall. Whether the waterfall is artificial or natural, the water is still water, and it still flows down.

7. The doctor returns to his home in Moscow from the war front. The comfortable and luxurious home that belonged to the middle class has been divided up by countless poor people. The arrogance of the director of the neighborhood committee and the secretary of the party committee is impressive. Although compared to a certain country's landlord, it is still inferior. There are still a lot of books in the doctor's divided home. But at the outbreak of any revolution, knowledge and intellectuals are the first to be spurned or forcibly instrumentalized - stinky old nine.

8. The doctor's younger brother (the film's narrator) clearly understands the tenderness of personal emotions in his brother's poetry and growing older, but it's not necessarily universal and fundamentally human. The party secretary of the Red Army guerrilla has a wife and four children, but he is still ruthless, ruthless, and follows iron-like discipline, which is scary. People can love, but at the same time, people also have banal evil.

9. Doctors are sympathetic to the revolution. Peaceful demonstrations were bloody suppressed. He rushed out to rescue them, and he also rescued many revolutionaries in the field hospital. But in the eyes of the revolutionary masses, these did not help to prove his "progressiveness", but his poems, love and background proved his indelible "conservativeness".

10. The doctor was left with a grand piano by his untimely mother, who was a natural musician, but he seemed to resist the grand piano. Although he carried the piano all his life, he never learned it. And Tonya (the doctor and Lara's daughter), who has never seen her father, carries a grand piano in the final scene, and his boyfriend says she's a natural musician. The so-called talent is the secret code passed down from generation to generation by human beings. The movie also constantly uses grand piano sounds as background music.

11. Whether in peace or war, whether in feudal monarchy, revolutionary military and political, capitalism, communism, this or that absurdity, to survive, these things are needed: music, poetry, talent, and Fall.
