Leviathan: the Tragedy of Hitting the Stone with Pebble

The icy-to-the-bone movie and the plot that can almost be sat in the right seat make people feel a little more chilled.

A family who seemed to be living a peaceful life has been brought down by the forcible expropriation of their house. Within the system, individual power against the state machine is a dead end, and even if the Leviathan is only a skeleton on the beach, the nets woven by the visible and invisible black hands will still lead to no escape. The lawyer, the lover, and the hero were shot at the gun but failed to save the beauty. Liya could neither get her lover nor lose her residence. The work of killing fish almost turned her into a cold and numb fish on the assembly line.

Facing her stepson, who treats her like an enemy, a rude and alcoholic husband, and a life that can be seen at a glance, Liya chooses to devote herself to the sea, but her husband is designed to be framed as a murderer and thrown into prison. Leviathan is justifiably destroyed. I lost a family. The monster-like excavator viciously and easily turned the homes built by generations of people into rubbish, while the murderers prayed in the church reverently and preached to the believers with dignity and adherence to the truth, to protect the faith. This is a movie that makes people feel so powerless and so painful. In such a society, you don't know how to protect yourself, the pursuit of fairness and justice is replaced by religious numbness, and people can do nothing but pray to God.

Extended Reading

Wow, it's amazing. It's actually a demolitions story that can happen anywhere (it is said that the prototype is still American?). The director captured his own feelings and captured the breath of life of this generation of Russians. The embedded branch line not only makes the story form a complete circle, but also prevents the character's behavior from being judged by a single "good or bad" criterion (especially the religious line). After reading it, the aftertaste is endless, which is very good. How many actors are so nice

The book is good, the heat is slow, the shots in the second half are beautiful, and the actors are blunt.

Leviathan quotes

  • Lilya: It's all my fault.

Dmitriy Seleznyov: No such thing. Each of us is guilty of our own faults. Everything is everybody's fault. Even if we confess, the law doesn't hold it to be proof of guilt. We're innocent until proven guilty. But who's to prove anything? And to whom?

Lilya: Do you believe in God?

Dmitriy Seleznyov: Why do you all keep asking me about God? I believe in facts. I'm a lawyer Lilya.

  • Vasiliy: Can you pull in Leviathan with a fishhook, or tie down its tongue with a rope? Will it keep begging you for mercy? Will it speak to you with gentle words? Nothing on Earth is its equal. It is king over all that are proud.
