Converting to Environmental Protection--After Viewing "The Truth That Is Hard to Ignore"

If I hadn't been educated in atheism since I was a child, I believe I would be a very pious person. I believe that there is always something in the world that should be trustworthy, has eternal value, and can devote the whole body and mind. I believed in love when I was young, then in beauty, and then in death. I am getting closer and closer to religion. Because religion actually prepares for death. The attitude towards death is your outlook on life and attitude towards life.

Environmental protection is an attitude to life. To put it simply, I only consume what I need and only occupy what I really care about. This is unquestionable when materials are scarce, and when supplies are sufficient, this requires wisdom and determination.

When thinking wildly, one wonders whether civilization is really "progress", whether it is really beneficial to the species "human", or whether it has accelerated the extinction of the species. We have intelligence, can think, can use tools, and feel that we are great, but the more "civilized and developed" society, the lower the fertility rate. Isn't it surprising that it is not worth thinking about? The more advanced science and technology, the worse and worse living environment is already a fact. Isn’t it worthy of vigilance? The more we have, the happier or even less happy we have. Isn’t it a kind of irony?

Such an idea is very "politically incorrect." Therefore, "The Inconvenient Truth" dare not say that, it just talks about the "political inconvenience" aspect. The English name An Inconvenient Truth means "Tricky Truth." I originally thought that inconvenient means "inconvenient", but it is not. The film talks about the ambiguous and evasive attitude of American politicians on the issue of global warming, because it involves huge interests. Facing global warming is the "right" attitude, but it is very tricky to deal with it. Americans who are comfortable with enjoyment are also willing to keep their doors closed and continue to ignore the situation. Otherwise, why didn't Al Gore become the president of the United States?

However, Gore did not touch this fact head-on. He is very smart, and most of the time he makes science and climate change examples speak, he is not positively scary, but everyone is scared. Implicitly, he was saying to the Americans: Look, you didn't elect me at the beginning, the consequences would be serious, right?

But I forgive him for his behavior, because the facts he showed convinced me. The climate is indeed not right, and all people living in coastal areas should also listen to what he said. Sea level rise (and indeed it is rising) is absolutely ruthless and bears the brunt. Nature is ruthless. I forgot which article said that "saving the earth" is actually a wrong concept, and what should be saved is the existing creatures on the earth. To be selfish is to save mankind. The climate has changed, and the ice age has come. The earth is still the earth, or those substances, but the liquid becomes solid or the solid becomes gas. It will revolve around the sun in the solar system. Only when the sun goes wrong can we talk about saving the earth. The earth's getting colder and hotter is actually the norm in the history of the earth. But fragile humans cannot withstand a sneeze from the earth. Besides, global warming is only one aspect of environmental problems.

However, people do not shed tears without seeing the coffin. It is not easy for them to realize this approaching danger, so Gore ran around giving speeches in an attempt to awaken the people. Of course there are political ambitions and show-making elements in this, but this person is indeed better than the guy who only knows to start war.

"The Inconvenient Truth" is actually a lively popular science class. It is well-prepared, easy to explain, moves with emotion, knows reason, and is not excessively incited. It has achieved its goals without much less. It was not fancy at all, but the audience was deeply shocked. It also knows that it needs to educate the general public and cannot expect to preach with high standards of morality, so it frightens the audience first, and then urges everyone to start small things at the end of the film.

Speaking of "inconvenient", I think it is entirely possible to understand it as "inconvenient". The present scene of human beings is spread so big, not because of greed for convenience and greediness. Typical cleverness is mistaken by cleverness. Automobiles, home appliances, and various advanced technologies that consume energy are mostly for the convenience of people's lives. After watching the film, I thought with a guilty conscience: Oops, I just bought a dryer. It is very convenient to have a dryer, and you will never be afraid of rain anymore. The clothes you have dried are warm and soft and comfortable, but the electricity it consumes is produced by petrochemical energy that releases a large amount of carbon dioxide. If there is no washing machine and refrigerator, how can life be lived? The washing machine is good, and the refrigerator is absolutely indispensable. Give up these, am I willing? difficult.

What I can do is to save water and electricity as much as possible, use less air conditioners, and use less dryers; sort the garbage and hand it over to recycling companies; buy less unnecessary things; use less plastic bags and paper (but books still have to be bought) ; If you can walk, you can walk, if you can take a bus, you can take a bus. But is this enough? I can also give this DVD to the principal with strong environmental awareness and let her show it to all the students in the school, but can those pampered children understand it? Actually, am I not pampered? What else can I do? I can convert to environmental protection and get used to an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Only use what is needed, only possess what is true love. No comparison, no vanity. Live a simple life, even if you are a bored person, you don't hesitate to do it.

Here are the things we can do to curb global warming:

1. Change a lamp: Replace an ordinary light bulb with an energy-saving light bulb, which will reduce the emission of 150 pounds of carbon dioxide (1 pound = 0.45 kg) each year.

2. Drive less: Increase opportunities for walking, biking, carpooling, or taking buses. Drive 1 mile (about 1.6km) less, and reduce the emission of 1 pound of carbon dioxide.

3. Recycling more waste products: Recycling only half of the garbage in your home will reduce the emission of 2400 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

4. Check car tires: Keeping the tires full will increase the energy efficiency of gasoline by 3%. For every gallon (3.79 liters) of gasoline saved, 20 pounds of carbon dioxide will be reduced.

5. Use less hot water: Boiling water is extremely energy intensive. Install a small flow nozzle to save hot water (350 pounds of carbon dioxide less per year), and wash with cold or warm water (500 pounds of carbon dioxide less per year).

6. Don't buy products with complicated packaging: If you produce 10% less garbage, you will emit 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide less.

7. Adjust the temperature: turn down the air conditioner by two degrees in winter and increase it by two degrees in summer. A small action can reduce the emission of 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

8. Plant one tree, plant many trees: A tree can absorb 1 ton of carbon dioxide from survival to death.

9. Turn off electrical appliances: turn off TVs, DVD players, stereos, and computers when they are not in use, saving thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

If you don't want Shanghai and Hangzhou to become an underwater city in the near future, please remember to do the above things, you don't need to do all of them, one or two are good. Although it says "Everyone sweeps the snow in front of the door, and don't care for others to put on the frost", but those who said this sentence in those years, did not expect that one day the frost and snow will disappear. Also, please reprint this article, thank you .

An Inconvenient Truth quotes

  • Al Gore: If we accept that this problem is real, maybe it's just too big to do anything about. And, you know, there are a lot of people who go straight from denial to despair without pausing on the intermediate step of actually doing something about the problem.

  • Al Gore: If we use more efficient electricity appliances, we can save this much off of the global warming pollution that would otherwise be put into the atmosphere. If we use other end-use efficiency, this much. If we have higher mileage for cars, this much. And all these begin to add up. Other transport efficiency, renewable technology, carbon capture and sequestration. A big solution that you're gonna be hearing a lot more about. They all add up, and pretty soon we are below our 1970 emissions.
