Minority Report: The battle between technology and free will

Since "Creed", I haven't seen such a high-quality commercial film for a long time. It is a wonderful thinking game under the interweaving of technology and humanities.

The premise of the prophetic system in the movie is that reality and future are mutually causal:

  • Because criminals want to kill, they commit crimes, and reality is the reason for future occurrences;
  • But at the same time, the prophet predicts the crime, the police station dispatches the police to prevent the crime from happening, and the future is the reason of reality.

That is, by predicting the future, reality takes steps to prevent the future from happening, which in turn proves that the prediction is accurate. Speaking of which logic loopholes have appeared here, is there a possibility that the predicted future did not happen at all? For example, if a criminal chooses not to commit a crime, if the predicted future does not happen, is there a loophole in the system? This is also the purpose of Agent Danny who came to investigate. As the plot unfolds, the problems of the system are gradually revealed.

There are three main examples of free will making systems work less accurately:

  • By using the mutual causation mechanism of the system, Rama first made the killer have a murderous consciousness and was predicted by the system. After being arrested, he went to kill the mother of the prophetess. The motive for the second murder was actually predicted by the system, but it was ignored artificially. Humans, as part of the system, fail. (Of course danny found out later.)
  • While investigating the case of the Prophet's mother, the system predicted that the Commander would kill more than Tom Cruise. On that node, killing people proves that the system is accurate; not killing people proves that the system has loopholes. Shuaibi used his own experience to slap himself in the face, proving that, under free will, a system that was once believed to be true may indeed go wrong, leading to excessive arrests.
  • In the end, Dashuaibi learned to use the mechanism of the system to confront the old man. If the old man kills him, it proves that the system is perfect, but his reputation for murder is ruined; if the old man does not kill him, it proves that there is a loophole in the system, and the presence of so many important leaders is equivalent to public execution. Although the old man was in this dilemma and finally chose not to face reality, he also admitted in disguise that the prophet's prediction system was not so flawless.

All have put in great effort for the minority report that exists in the Prophet system. But in the end, the minority report is no longer important. How technology and human beings coexist, and the choice of reality and future under free will may be the focus of our attention.

  • Technological inventions were originally designed to serve human beings and have positive meanings, just like the original purpose of the prophet system was to allow these special children to survive; but human choices allow technology to be used to serve the choices of a small number of people, contaminating it with negative effects.
  • If technology is cold, then technology with living bodies or even humans as carriers can be said to be cruel. Prophets lying in nutrient solution, can you say that they are living people? How to balance scientific and technological progress and ethical standards?
  • The reality and the future can be mutually causal, but under the reality that is changed because of the future, the future obtained again is no longer the original future. Or, the time category is not so important, the reality and the future are just a choice, and free will is the ultimate destination?

"you always have an option."

    A decent happy ending. 1. Who is the son of the male protagonist? died? alive? 2. The nerd scientist and the female prophet in the temple are definitely having an affair, perhaps unrequited love; 3. The heroine loves the hero so much, why did she apply for a divorce in the first place? 4. The old man is not a good cake at first glance.

    The more innovative science fiction movies, although some details are not able to withstand scrutiny, but the concepts thrown out are thought-provoking, and it is a successful commercial movie with exciting action scenes and rich imagination. What can be changed is not the past, and what can be predicted is not the future. ★★★☆
