Whether it's the two protagonists or the Ford boss, they always mention their experiences during World War II. That was the most important big test that their generation had ever experienced in their lifetimes. After the test, they were men who stood up to the sky, and nothing could make it difficult for them to survive. Shelby played by Matt Damon served in the Air Force during World War II, and Miles played by Bell was a tanker in World War II.
