Only respected children will be truly 'adults'--"Goodbye in Heaven" & "A Bag of Marbles"

"Goodbye in Heaven" is a good movie that was delayed by the title. I have seen the source of the film a long time ago, but I always thought it was in a similar form to the film "See You in Heaven" in our country, so I never watched it. Shallow prejudice.

But because I watched it before and after "A Bag of Marbles", I suddenly understood why God arranged for me to watch it now.

Both films reflect World War II, but from completely different angles. One is a soldier who persisted to the end on the battlefield, and the other is a child who fled around the ghetto. Guess who is more heartbreaking?

The children under ten years old went through hardships and finally returned to Paris to be reunited with their families; while the soldiers who had ushered in the surrender of the German army pretended to die and eventually died.

In their growth, there is an important role: father. And the family education concept shown around the father.

Joseph of "A Bag of Marbles" has three older brothers and loving parents. Although the father also had the unsmiling smile of the patriarchal characteristics of that era, he loved them very much, respected the child's nature, and would fight pillows at night when Joseph didn't want to sleep.

His older brothers all grew up in this environment, so they know to love and take responsibility. The film mainly reflects his third brother, Morris, who is only fifteen or sixteen years old. He went through hardships along the way and took great care of Joseph. Even if he was killed, he would keep his promise and return to the German army camp to rescue his brother.

The two children faced death threats several times and both broke through. In addition to the help of kind-hearted people, the calmness, industriousness, integrity, and perseverance taught by their parents are the foundation of their survival.

And "Goodbye in Heaven" protagonist Edward, is a talented rich boy. He has won victory on the battlefield, but he faked his death just to avoid his strict father since childhood. (Of course there are other episodes in which he gets his jaw blown off, but that's not the main reason for his fake death).

He stayed in the slums with his impoverished comrades in arms. Because he lost all his teeth, he could only survive by feeding with a syringe.

The only thing he wants to do is paint. Later, he made exquisite masks to cover up the scars on his body, which fully showed his artistic talent.

Growing up in the rich circle, he is also very business-minded. He can keenly discover the business opportunities that the post-war society needs war monuments, and direct his comrades to make money for advertising fraud, and he makes a lot of money in a short period of time.

And he really has no concept of money. There is a particularly happy plot. After successfully defrauding his father of 150,000 francs, when faced with a bag full of money, he asked if he could take some. Take whatever you want. I saw that he took a few big piles of money, came out after a while, and danced happily with a lion mask made of all francs.

In the film, the most gorgeous mask is prepared for father and son to meet each other. Under the dazzling peacock mask, there are breathtaking blue eyes.

Perhaps, under such a ferocious mask, he prepared a lot of disdainful words in order to take revenge against the whole unbearable post-war world and the final battle with his father. Unexpectedly, his father recognized him and sincerely regretted his indifference and meanness towards him before.

Edward's never cynical eyes were oozing tears, and at the moment when everything seemed to be happy, he jumped without hesitation and found his true freedom.

At this point, no, no doubt, Edward's life-long waiting was only his father's face.

Otherwise, his whole mouth was blown up, his flesh and blood can only survive on morphine, and seeing that he has finally survived the rich life of success and filial piety, why can he decide to leave at this moment, as if a grand movement has come to an abrupt end? stop.

Joseph, who was less than ten years old, was brave, resourceful, calm and mature. He survived tenaciously under the harsh conditions of being chased and killed by the Germans everywhere. It can be said that he had a very mature mind. A young man who is sensitive, vulnerable, kind-hearted and cynical. Throughout his life, he has been a traumatized child. After getting the face he wanted from his father, when he jumped off the building, was he relieved or sad. . . ?

All of this may no longer matter.

At this moment, I wish that you and I will always be treated kindly by fate. If you have bad luck, you can also know yourself:

There are thousands of ways to grow, the original family is just the way, and our own efforts can also split the place.

mutual encouragement.
