a bit disappointing

With the love for the previous film of the 1993 version and even the preference for the sequel "Return to the Secret Garden", a well-known film, I found the film to watch the 2020 version as soon as the resources were released. First of all, I said that I couldn't watch the entire movie, and I quit after watching it for nearly an hour, because I was really disappointed with the plot and characters. Even many of the shots that people say are good-looking, I feel that the director and the cameraman seem to be unable to do what they want. Forcibly stacked some natural scenery photos and dry ice smoke, it is far less than the level of the previous 93 version.

The film's total failure (in my eyes) is due to two main reasons, one is the blunt adaptation of the plot, and the other is the unpleasant characters and lines. Many friends say that the picture is beautiful, but I actually feel it is abnormal. I will mention it later when I have the opportunity.

Children's fantasy movies should not have asked too much, but unfortunately the director decided to remake a movie with many excellent previous works. As a children's literature work, the content of the original Secret Garden itself is not very esoteric. Fine-tuned and adapted into a small fresh and healing masterpiece. The 2020 version of this work invited big-name stars like Uncle Face to play adult roles. I thought I would put more effort into the roles, but I felt a little disappointed after watching the trailer. The original work and the previous work focused on expressing the image of the girl as a parent ignoring the family's rejection of the victim, but she did not deliberately beautify her selfishness and indifference. With the beginning of a new life, she gradually showed new characteristics, changes and harmony. Growth comes naturally with the recovery of the garden and the company of friends. But the girl characters in the 20th edition are not only older, the time has also been set to the end of World War II, and it is very embarrassing to stress twice in the movie about not being able to wear clothes by themselves. The girl refuses to go to school before she discovers the secret garden and knows Deacon, and it's strange to face her uncle who just refuses education Whether they borrowed a piece of land to grow flowers, the matter of going to school is only a temporary delay agreed by both parties, which reflects the fact that the girl’s growth and human nature after moving in for a period of time are not bad). These plot bugs cause the girl actors to appear very neurotic, and there seems to be no obvious growth and progress.

In addition, let me mention the boy's actor, the choice is not very good, the boy should be a person who thinks he is seriously ill and will die, and never leaves the room, this situation is already very unusual in the background of the technology and medical treatment after World War II in the film It's normal, the little actors in the movie don't see any negative and pale feelings, they're just surly, and the character creation is not pleasing. The 20th edition also complicates the relationship between boys and girls and their respective mothers, unnecessarily and logically.

The magical garden scene in the movie is also very unnatural, and I don't know why this adaptation is made. At the beginning of the film, the wasteland was also given a barren shot, and in a blink of an eye, the shot became the boulevard and tropical rain forest in the manor, and there was no explanation. Such a grotesque magic garden scene naturally does not need an old gardener to take care of it, resulting in The important role of the old gardener, the adult mixed in with the children in the original work, has been removed. The troubled children in the film are meant to grow and heal along with the recovery of the gardens they cultivated. If only two children were influenced by the accidental discovery of the beauty of nature, in fact, the secret garden would no longer be a secret.

The original work and the previous work are set in a noble family before the war, and the location is set in the wasteland for a reason. It was an era when technology and medical care were not developed, so mothers would fall to death, girls' parents would die of illness, and boys would not dare to go out due to hypochondriasis. , the story of a family who were depressed and finally healed by the magic of nature. The film is adapted into a house that was requisitioned by soldiers and still powered on after World War II. Boys and girls still met when they were young, and it seems that the mystery of the whole movie story inherited from the original book has also been weakened.

Finally, when it comes to photography, the most impressive part of the 93 edition is that the boy Deacon goes around the bush maze, rides a white horse, and runs to the field. In the 20th edition, the imagination went backwards. Deacon's appearance was always lingering dry ice smoke, and he also scored twice. The field of vision was extremely limited, which was a bit comical. The garden is pure green, and the clothes of the actors are also green. It is uncomfortable to look at the camera too much. The image of the boulevard is also full of green. Below are two pictures for everyone to compare, which one is full of green and which is softer. easy to see. The soundtrack should also be sprayed by the way. Listen to the original sound of the 93 version. The level is completely different.

Amateur movie fans feel that the decline of fantasy movies in the past two years is a bit serious, and they will even smash the brand of the classic predecessor in front of new audiences. They are unwilling and complain. I hope more fantasy works will come out, instead of crowding into theaters to watch all kinds of reruns.
