It's a slightly slender film with no particularly bizarre story. Everything is about women. It's all about the far northwest of the United States. Female director Kelly Reichardt's adaptation of the short story "Some Kind of Woman" (2017) was well-received at the Sundance Film Festival and made a big hit. The time is defined as 2014, and the three independent stories are connected with each other. Although they are not close, they are quite meaningful.
Montana, which is close to the central part of Canada, has a population of more than 300,000 square kilometers and a population of more than 800,000. That is to say, it is equivalent to the area of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Fujian, but only has the population of one county in China. Its label is boundless desolation. , loneliness and aloofness. But this is their home, and they are used to life here. What I think is that the film is deliberately placed in such a cold place, maybe to make the audience enjoy it.
Kelly Reichardt directed Wendy and Lucy. The previous work "Operation Night" is somewhat lacking. "A Kind of Woman" is completely from a female perspective, and presents the four women's hidden intricate incisions and their own melancholy. Its indescribable loneliness and pain make people feel the edge of the lonely needle, its heat is undiminished, and the temperature can be felt. Even if I read these three stories in isolation, I still feel the silence and the chill of late autumn.

In the first paragraph of the film, lawyer Laura, played by Laura Dern, applied for compensation to her employer for Fuller, who suffered an accidental injury. Even more vexing, Fuller, who became increasingly impatient, became hot-tempered and often drank heavily, which made the relationship between husband and wife strained.
But what is intriguing about the film is that the opening scene is the scene of Laura's rendezvous with her lover. Fuller's "discussion" is just to show Laura's anxious heart. When she applied to the management department for Fuller again, it was rejected because he had already taken a sum of money from the management, and it would become impossible to re-apply for compensation. This no doubt annoyed Fuller, and he kept scolding him on the way back, which left Laura a little at a loss.
Unexpectedly, this ordinary rights defense would end in a kidnapping case. That night, Fuller kidnapped Ami Shenyana, the security guard at the residence, at gunpoint. The police invited Laura to come forward, and Laura persuaded him to let him release the security guard. He didn't want to hurt anyone, but he didn't want to turn himself in, so he offered to let Laura get out in the front to attract the police's attention, and he fled from the back. Strangely, when Laura came down to meet the police, she saw Fuller walking towards the police. It seemed that he still figured it out and turned himself in to the police.
This is a portrayal of the unbearable life of a laborer, and it is also the helplessness of Laura as a lawyer. Her life, like Fuller's, is actually a mess, but in a different state. Fuller is simple and rude, while Laura hides everything in her heart. When she is upset, she goes to the mall to let the flowing time wash away the anxiety that is uneasy in her heart. Police believe she can solve the problem because she, as attorney for Fuller, understands his situation. In fact, all we can say is that Fuller was essentially a good man, a good worker, but he couldn't find the key to his problem.

In the second paragraph, a family of three lives without a fixed place and lives in tents in the wilderness. Daughter Guthrie is in puberty and is more rebellious. Gina, played by Michelle Williams, also has a delicate relationship with her husband Ryan.
In the first paragraph, Laura's lover is her husband Ryan. Ryan said to his daughter, you have to be nice to your mother, and her daughter will ignore it. What Gina thought was that the home needed a new house. Together with her husband, she found Albert, an old man in his 70s.
Albert lived alone, a typical figure waiting to die. Gina took a fancy to a pile of boulders in front of his door. It would be better if they were used to build a house. Unexpectedly, the old man agreed. They carried away the sandstone strips.
In the film, the snow-capped mountains in the distance are majestic and the long road is winding. That kind of vastness and blue sky are integrated into the sky, bringing mysterious power to this world. And people are isolated in the world, life and death, come and go like a mayfly, leaving no trace of life, but the stone will always be there, or build a house, or lie there, truly self-contained.

The third paragraph pushes the interpretation of female loneliness to the extreme. Rather than saying that the law student played by Kristen Stewart has an indescribable emotional relationship with the Farm Wrangler (Lily Gladstone), it is better to say that this is completely a one-man show of the Wrangler, or its other It's her self-indulgent love. The unnamed horse shepherd in the film works as a part-time worker at Harden Farm, tending to a herd of horses. A white-faced horse named Flynn was deeply loved by her.
That night, she had nothing to do, so she came to town and followed a group of old men and aunts to the night school. The teacher who teaches "School Law" is an intern played by Kristen Stewart. After the class, the Wrangler drove her to the restaurant and watched her feast. The Wrangler just watched with a smile. After she left, Ms. Wrangler walked into the store to buy some bread to satisfy her hunger, and she could see her savings.
After the third evening class, she was taken aback by the horse shepherd riding the tall horse Flynn to pick her up for a walk. The rhythm of the two riding horses really feels a bit traveled, as if returning to the western scene a hundred years ago, perhaps this is also a memory of the years. In the 5th class, the shepherd girl found that the female teacher she liked did not come. She couldn't bear it, so she drove to the town where she worked and stayed there all night until dawn. She asked everywhere, including the first law firm where Laura worked.
We can see the eager desire of the Wrangler. The female teacher drove over to see the shepherd girl. Of course, she was a little surprised, but her performance was very light. She said that she didn't go because she was too tired from work. The strong wind ruffled her hair. She resisted the pain in her heart and said with a smile that it was all right, and I went back to take care of the horses. The female teacher did not keep her. Obviously, she didn't care about the Wrangler's waiting.
When the shepherd girl left, the emotion that could not be concealed really hurt like a thin steel needle. So much so that she fell asleep while driving, and the car drove to the deserted field outside the road. Fortunately, it was not a cliff. The Wrangler, played by Lily Gladstone, is amazing, and it can be said that her acting skills are Kristen Stewart. Her restraint and patience, concealed but not revealed, made people feel distressed for her. Fortunately, the open pasture and the horses she loves can dissolve her sadness. The snow light of the distant mountains and the starlight of the dark night will shine selflessly, guiding her.

At the end of the film, there is a big comeback. Laura, in the first paragraph, came to the prison to see Fuller who was serving his sentence. He said his wife ran off with a guy in Wyoming who just got out of jail. They met on the Internet, doesn't she know that I'm also serving a sentence? I really don't understand what this woman is thinking. Then he asked Laura and wrote you a letter. Laura said yes, but I don't know what to say, how are you here. So be it. Their loneliness reflects their own difficulties.
The life of "A Certain Woman" is accurate, but the world is illusory for them, and only Laura's visit can become the only reality of Fuller's life. As for the second wife, Gina, after a busy dinner for her friends, she walked outside alone to take a breath. The pile of stones was still there, and it seemed that the day of building the house was approaching. She took a sharp puff of cigarette. Not easy life. Sunshine, depression, and the coyotes she said followed closely by her side, and this was the uniqueness of Montana.
The shepherd girl, on the other hand, still takes care of her pasture. Short-tailed dog, catching something as always. The horses are still grazing leisurely in the pasture. Only the distance is farther than the distance. The road with no end in sight stretches out quietly to the end of the sky. The swaying delicate affair, not even a love affair, has long since faded away. She will continue her loneliness, or fall in love with a guy. In short, her love horse Flynn will continue to gallop in the wasteland. Life goes on as usual, the sun rises as usual, and the blizzards of cold winter swept through as usual.
