Novel adaptation. It tells the story of how an adult grizzly bear who was hunted down by a hunter turned his foe into a friend and formed a bond with a cub who lost his mother. Whether it is the sadness of losing a loved one, the warmth of helping each other, or the fantastic and exaggerated dream, the traces of anthropomorphism are obvious. After all, this is not "Animal World" for the purpose of telling knowledge. The director hopes to resonate with the audience by expressing the emotions of animals. Another theme of the film is the reconciliation between man and nature, which is also one of the important clues in the original novel. Grizzlies won respect by not choosing to take revenge when they had the opportunity. As the end credits say: the most exciting thing is not killing, but releasing.
Famous animal actor Bart (a Kodiak brown bear) plays the adult grizzly bear, while the cub is played by a cub named Douce. Again, this is not a documentary, so all plots are fake, or at least reconstructed. In fact, the crew even used some emotional means to prevent the big bear from eating the little bear. But the final cut was so good that it was almost fake, no wonder it was nominated for an Oscar.
