In 2017, I started experimenting with interactive scripts on my notebook, like writing code, structured drawings, and carefully studied the feasibility of interactive plays and movies. Finally, I found that my ability was not strong enough, so I put it on hold for the time being. On December 28, 2018, that is, today, I saw the dawn - the first interactive drama in the commercial sense, netlix ate the first crab - bandersnatch black mirror special, bandersnatch. Black Mirror, the only British drama I've always loved, has finally succeeded in practicing its avant-garde experimentation and social reality. Had to write a review!
The film is between the movie and the game, interacting with the audience, following a male protagonist who designed the game to complete his new game design and reveal his family story, after which all the reality and the world in the game began to confuse. The film doesn't sacrifice too much coherence or logic for interacting with the audience, thanks to its multi-layered and well-structured structure. (Though there are still some choices that are a bit outrageous and hilarious and entertaining.)
Said to be the longest 90 minutes, I actually watched 100 minutes! Almost all choices are forced or forced to choose again. Some options are not only two, but after re-selecting the path, you will find three or four, such as passwords. In the end, it felt like there was nothing left.
There are at least five types of endings, but I insist that it is more appropriate to say not how many endings are played (I think there are at least six different endings?), but how many paths and hierarchies, after all, each road encounter The plot will be different. Why does everyone care so much about the ending? ? !
About the architecture. The first layer is that the male protagonist reads the novel and decides to make a game. In fact, the story of the author of the novel should also be considered as one layer. The second layer is the TV show review game. The rating determines how the male protagonist plays the game, and it also represents the different trends after the plot (I saw at least five or six ratings). The third layer is that the daughter of the male protagonist's friend in the 21st century rediscovered the dusty game, and then decided to use this as a prototype to remake the game in java. Then I found an invisible clue to the government conspiracy, and then traced back to see another branch of the male protagonist's story. At the same time, on the fourth floor, the male protagonist went to the doctor for consultation and found that the film crew (probably netflix) was filming, but the male protagonist could not play the role. The fifth layer is the self-advertising and company introduction made by Netflix to the audience, as well as the audience's own choice and introduction of all plots.
About choice. Among the dozens of choices in the story, some are irrelevant, what to eat, drink, listen to, listen to, read, and some are very important, agree or disagree with the offer, work by yourself or work with a team, take medicine, kill or not Kill the father and so on. And the most important question is, how is the choice made? who made it? "Who is controlling me", at the end of the game, I felt that this question was asked the most by the male protagonist, and of course it was also the question that interacted with the audience the most.
Regarding the audience's path choice, not only the male protagonist in the story will have doubts, whether it is the game plot he wrote, or someone controlling his brain, choose or not, and which one will lead to different results. For the audience, I also have to choose between a. controlling the direction of the plot and b. going with the flow. At first, I will choose some options that seem to deviate from the main road with the plot, and then find that this deviation actually gives important information; sometimes I will make the same choice on the same path to see if there is any Different plot surprises appear; sometimes I will not choose, but follow the automatically selected path, this kind of plot may go more smoothly, it will make you think that this will exhaust all options as soon as possible, so that the movie will end faster (however not). Even if you end up ignoring some options, it may be repeated over and over again like Groundhog Day, and then force you to choose the ones you haven't chosen (or you may easily miss them), As if you are God, you can see the outcome of every choice through thousands of sails, and as if you are not God, everything is destined.
Of course, the brilliance of the story mainly comes from the repeated setting of parallel time and space. For exploring the possibilities in all movies, such a story setting is inevitable, and the appearance of this setting is related to three factors- 1. lsd hallucinogenic reaction 2. The philosophical concept in all types of entertainment forms of game novels and stories, that is to say, infinite possibilities, infinite imagination, infinite fractals. 3. Government intrigue and experimentation. In this context, almost drug control and paternal surveillance and childhood trauma testing make sense. And the third point almost continues the style of Black Mirror all along. In addition, in the third story, that is, today, the news progress bar below the report on the male protagonist on the TV pays tribute to the stories of the past few seasons of Black Mirror, which makes an old fan like me smile very knowingly.
There are only two answers in the show for you to choose as to who is controlling the hero - Netflix, or a story with a sign of death (someone will die if the hero gets mad at the "who's in control" question) La). Bandersnatch, according to Google, is an Alice in Wonderland character. Therefore, a character can belong to everyone, you have me, I have you, so all this is not only controlled by the audience, but also controlled by netflix, and of course, the writer and producer Charlie brooker is in control in the end, It is the future trend and the audience are in control.
So, tell me now, is "what to watch" in the audience's control? Did the government let you see it? Or do you want to see it yourself? What exactly can we control?
