Hope and Glory evaluation action

Director John Boorman is a metaphor for the hypocrisy in life. All kinds of lies exist in this strange and ordinary life. And children learn and grow in the lies of the adult world. The biggest difference between this film and the films reflecting World War II at the time is the lack of the image of the United States as a savior.
From a child's point of view, many things will look different in war. For example, an enemy plane's air raid on London will make the children cheer, because then they have earned their vacations and don't have to go to school. The film is a childhood memory of British director John Polman. The protagonist is a nine-year-old boy. Because his father went to the front to fight, he was able to enjoy the free life of a wild child, and he also had a very interesting interactive relationship with his sister who was in love. Although the whole film does not have a clear storyline, through the rich and interesting details, it allows the audience to feel the atmosphere of London when the Second World War broke out. It is humorous and delicate. Surprising war literary film
The story is from the beginning to the end during World War II. The hero is a little boy from an ordinary family in London. The film itself talks about the shortcoming of the parents, playing cricket, eating jam, visiting grandpa's house, sister falling in love, sister naughty, etc., everywhere. It's all cold and humorous, but the fighter jets and bombs dropped from time to time remind the audience that the movie is telling the audience about the folk history during World War II. It's just that the director stands high and sees far. The war is a weakened background of the story. The dark clouds of war did not disturb the peace and hope in the children's hearts, and they were especially inspirational emotionally.

Hope and Glory quotes

  • Dawn: Don't get smoochy. You'll spoil it.

  • Molly: God, how I hate all this scrimping and squalor.

Grace Rowan: I don't mind it. It was harder before the war, trying to keep up appearances. Now, well, it's patriotic to be poor.
