The Alamo creative background

2022-03-20 08:01
The film is based on the true events of one of the most significant wars in American history, the Battle of the Alamo in Texas for independence. The outnumbered Alamo defenders used their intellectual passions and ideals of independence to rise up against the mighty Mexican government   .
Texas-born director John Lee Hancock, who grew up fascinated by his hometown heroes, said that it was not easy to separate the legend of the Alamo from the new discoveries of historians, and he tried to use both aspects, But at the same time, everything must be based on reality. Screenwriter Leslie Bohem has studied many published related books and found that many past films lack historical facts. He hopes to remove the magical elements in the story and let the characters in the film be vividly displayed in front of the audience   .

Two and a half stars. There are comments that this version is more inclined to describe people than war. The problem is that it has been long-winded before, and it has not left a deep impression on the three protagonists. Only the long shot of a cannonball perspective in the film for more than 40 minutes is amazing, and the battle of the city is also ok.

Smelly and long. A sensational meal, but the filming is very weak. Is it interesting to portray the Mexican army as an orc?

The Alamo quotes

  • Juan Seguin: Davy, you said you wanted to see him. There he is: The Napoleon of the West.

    David Crockett: Which one?

Juan Seguin: [points to Santa Anna on a horse in the distance]

    David Crockett: That's Santa Anna?

    Juan Seguin: Yeah.

David Crockett: [Santa Anna shouts to move the cannons] He's quite the peacock, ain't he?

David Crockett: [takes aim with his rifle and shoots off Santa Anna's epaulette]

    David Crockett: [laughs]

    David Crockett: Wind kicked up.

  • General Castrillon: Houston is less than two miles away.

Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana: We will break camp and chase the coward!

General Castrillon: He's not running. He's on his way here.
