INVICTUS

I was impressed by the poem that inspired Mandela to spend 30 years in prison after reading "It Happens in People". The name is also the name of the movie, and I specially found it to share with you:

Invictus

William Ernest Henley (1875)

Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

"Unconquerable"

William Ernest Henley (1875)

Through the night that covers me,

I see layers of darkness.

Thank God for giving me,

Unconquerable soul.

Even if you are held tightly by hell,

I never shy away from begging,

Hit hard by fate,

My head was full of blood, but my head was raised.

Out of the world of anger and sorrow,

It is not only the shadow of terror that rises,

But in the face of future threats,

You will find that I am fearless.

No matter how narrow the gate of fate,

No matter what the punishment is.

I am the master of my destiny,

I am the commander of my soul!

After reading it, I want to work hard for myself, moving and inspirational.

Although it's a bit tedious and slightly stylized, I like the warm and exciting power contained in it.

Invictus quotes

  • Nerine: Thinking about tomorrow?

Francois Pienaar: No. Tomorrow's taken care of, one way or another. I was thinking about how you spend 30 years in a tiny cell, and come out ready to forgive the people who put you there.

  • Francois Pienaar: I may break my arm, my leg, my neck, but I will not let that freaking guy go.
