8.6/10. ①The love between the young Chinese male protagonist who originally went to London to teach Buddhism but gradually degenerated due to the cruel reality and the poor white female protagonist who was repeatedly abused by his father, and the male protagonist who killed the female protagonist's father in order to save the female protagonist. ②It is a very high level of skillful use of the existing imaging techniques at that time, such as soft light, close-up, mask, scene switching, parallel montage, etc. ③ The narrative rhythm is more protracted.

Although the love in this story does not seem credible or even bloody, the mental journey of an oriental man has gone from a strenuous young man determined to transform the Western world into a small shopkeeper whose ideals are shattered and self-willed and degenerate. The process of self-destruction of no return is very, very realistic. . . The soft light phantom shows the grace and poignancy of classical Hollywood, and the echoing images from the beginning to the end are like a warning fable. . .
