On November 15, 1959, a murder occurred in a small town in Kansas, USA, in which a family of four was brutally murdered. The case shocked the entire United States, and the whole country is paying attention to the detection of this bloody case. Author Truman Capote was entrusted by the "New Yorker" magazine to write a documentary article covering the entire case in Kansas.
In this way, Capote and his assistant Harper began their careful investigation, intending to find out the story behind the murder from the locals. Soon, Capote was startled in a cold sweat by the truth he had investigated, and he suddenly discovered that he had established a deep friendship with one of the murderers, Perry Smith.
From the first time he saw Smith, Capote was sensitive to the fact that the man in front of him had a story. Because they have similar childhood experiences. Seeing Perry Smith, as Capote admitted to his long-time assistant and friend Harper Lee: He and Smith were children who grew up in the same house, but he had the opportunity to go out through the front door. , And the young Smith can only choose the back door, but has been sinking to the end. When facing the murderer Smith, Capote revealed the most true back of his life: the inner panic of being abandoned and disgusted before, and the loneliness and vulnerability caused by his childhood experience may lead to the end of the disaster. In the process of talking with Smith, he clearly realized that the opponent who had never been loved by others was abandoned by society long before he became a cold-blooded murderer. This made him deeply sympathize with Smith.
Capote is extremely contradictory. He is eager to write Smith's life into a successful novel, and at the same time, because of Smith's similar childhood experience, he has sympathy for the latter. Smith felt betrayed by Capote because he learned that the title of the book had been taken as "Cold Blood". Although Capote used comforting words to persuade him to continue to help him finish the book, he finally refused to appeal for Smith again to cancel the hanging.
As Capote's book is nearing completion and the day of execution is getting closer, Capote realizes that all this experience will change him forever and embark on an unprecedented path.
