On April 8, 1940, Nazi Germany raided Norway, which was pursuing a neutral policy. The Norwegian royal family, government, soldiers and ordinary people faced difficult choices about their national and personal destinies. As the first king of Norway after political independence, Haakon VII's attitude towards war is of vital importance.
