After nearly three years of preparation and one year of preparatory work, on April 14, 2007, "Red Cliff" was finally officially launched at CCTV's film and television base in Zhuozhou, Hebei. Zhuozhou is only an hour's drive from Beijing. Art director Ye Jintian converted an existing hall in the film and television base into two different interiors. One is the palace of Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty, Liu Xie, and it is here that the Prime Minister Cao Cao "holds the emperor to order the princes". The other is Sun Quan's main hall, which is where Zhuge Wuhou fought against the Confucian scholars - Sun Quan's ministers.
Another interior scene was set up in the studio of the Zhuozhou Film and Television Base. There is Zhou Lang's private residence, Zhou Mansion. The few "literary operas" in this epic war film were filmed here, including the lingering love scene between Zhou Lang and Xiao Qiao, and the scene where Zhou Lang and Zhuge Wuhou played the piano together. With the exception of these three interior scenes, the rest of the film was shot outdoors,
